Mitzie Clough: The best - and least expensive - way to become a real estate agent is to attend your local or community college. They usually have the real estate licensing class that is required. In my state it is required before you can take the state exam; I'm not sure about yours. Most states do have some educational requirements though.Take the class, study hard and take the state exam. Then sign on with a real estate office. Real estate is an expensive job to start out in. You have to pay MLS fees, you have to provide adequate car insurance for taking customers to homes you want to show them, you have to pay fees - sometimes - to the office just to 'rent' desk space, you have to buy your own stationery, business cards, etc. And then you have to spend a lot on postal services so you can "farm:" that means sending out solicitations for business.
